Services

Psychotherapy Clients

Individual Psychotherapy is for clients who seek treatment for diagnosable mental health conditions.  Any combination of the following indicate that psychotherapy is the right service for you: a previous or existing mental health diagnosis, current psychotropic medication, and/or a history of suicidality.

Individual Psychotherapy Sessions are $150 (50 minutes)

Counseling Clients

Counseling is a process of healing and change not based on diagnosis. My counseling practice has grown out my experience as a clinical psychotherapist combined with coaching techniques.  Because counseling can’t be billed to insurance it is confidential (not subject to insurance company requests for treatment notes). Counseling sessions can be in-person or remote sessions for clients who live beyond Maine. Please inquire for more information.

Counseling is $150 (50 minutes)

Couples Counseling and Family Counseling

Working with couples and families requires 60 minutes per session and costs $175.

Consultation

Katharine provides consultation to corporations, school districts, community mental health organizations, residential academic institutions, athletic teams, and summer camps. The scope and structure of this work depends on the need and is discussed at time of inquiry.

Katharine has a wealth of experience working with administrators, faculty, and students in responding to the needs of students and the larger community in academic, community-based, and experiential learning environments. Katharine has sat on boards of local health organizations striving to provide the best care to youth and adults who experience difficulty stemming from their intersecting identities including gender, race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality. Katharine is skilled in facilitating conversations that help uncover underlying needs and experiences that once brought into the light and cared for often lead to greater understanding and improved quality of relating to self and one another.

Katharine works with the aforementioned to assess needs and develop practices that recognize and strengthen social emotional development.

Payment

Payment is due at the time the service is provided. Visa and MasterCard, cash, HSA, and personal checks are accepted.

Appleyard Counseling is an out-of-network provider. If you would like to request reimbursement from your insurance company, we can provide an invoice for you to submit directly to your insurance company.

Questions to ask your insurance company about your mental health coverage:

  • What are my mental health insurance benefits?

  • What if I choose to see an out-of-network provider?

  • Do I have an annual deductible which applies to services and has it been met?

  • What is my co-payment or co-insurance per therapy session?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

  • Is a referral required from my primary care physician?

  • Does plan include couples therapy?

There are a few sliding-fee scale spots in my practice and requests are evaluated based on income and availability.

Good Faith Estimate

What is a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE)?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE), which is an estimate for the total cost of non-emergency medical services. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the total bill. The Good Faith Estimate will be provided to you with our initial intake paperwork. For more information, you can visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059. It is not always possible in the field of psychotherapy to give an exact cost of treatment, given the ongoing nature of the work. That being said, we will inform you of the expected cost for the initial phase of treatment, and if additional treatment is recommended, we will provide an updated estimate for you.
